SWEDISH BITTERS
The Long Life Elixir!
|
|
Swedish Bitters
(also known as Swedish Herbs) have
been around since the middle 1500's! This mixture was invented
as a digestive aid, but it's effects far outweigh the original intent
a thousand fold!
This original formula is as follows:
10 gm. Aloe*
5 gm. Myrrh
2 gm. Saffron
10 gm. Senna leaves
10 gm. Camphor**
10 gm. Rhubarb roots
10 gm. Manna
10 gm. Theriac venezian
5 gm. Carline Thistle roots
10 gm. Angelica roots
10 gm. Zedoary roots
* Instead
of Aloe, Genetian root or Wormwood powder may be used.
** Only natural Camphor should be used.

How to make
Swedish Bitters using the traditional
method.
The above herbal mixture
is put into a wide-necked 2 liter bottle. You then add 1.5 liter
of 70 to 80 proof rye or fruit spirit by pouring over it.
The bottle is covered
with a cloth (to keep bugs out) and left standing in the sun or
near the stove (in other words - a fairly warm area) for 14 days.
Make sure to shake gently daily.
After about 14 days,
liquid is strained and poured into smaller bottles, well stoppered
and stored in a cool place. This way it can be kept for many years.
The longer it stands
the more effective it becomes! Shake well before use. Alternatively,
some of the liquid can be strained into a smaller bottle and the
rest left in the larger bottle until required.
The use of alcohol
to seep the mixture out of the herbs was the original method, and
is still used in many parts of the World.
Modern manufacturing
has developed a "cold pressing" procedure, whereby the mixture of
dried herbs are soaked in distilled water for up to 4 weeks, then
placed under a multi-ton press for 24 hours.
The resulting solution
is more powerful than making Swedish Bitters
with alcohol. In fact, it was found that alcohol dilated the blood
vessels, causing constriction and (sometimes) high blood pressure.

The above is a Government ORDERED statement.
It is NOT based in either reality or sanity.
Just like our Government.
In a landmark decision
on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, the US Court of Appeals for the District
of Columbia ruled that the health claim rules imposed by the FDA
unconstitutional and in violation of the Administrative
Procedure Act. The court instructed the
FDA to define "significant scientific agreement" for health claims
on dietary supplement labels, and instructed the FDA to allow the
use of disclaimers on labels rather than to suppress these
claims outright. The court further held that four FDA Final rules
(prohibiting certain nutrient disease relationship claims) invalid
under the first Amendment to the Constitution.
